Battle of the Blackbirds

2004 Photograph, Red-winged Blackbirds  (Agelaius phoeniceus) making the feathers fly in a territorial battle, Huntley Meadows, Alexandria, Virginia © 2004.

It is a little hard to see at this size, but the bird on the left is using his foot to hold the other by the beak and is pecking his neck too.  There are some loose feathers just to the right of the birds.  Usually territorial conflict is accomplished with much less physical contact, if any.
