Puttyroot Orchid Leaf

2006 Photograph, Puttyroot Leaf (Aplectrum hyemale), one of our native orchids found in rich deciduous woods, Fairfax Villa Park, Fairfax, Virginia © 2006.
A bit of FYI from your friendly naturalist:  These leaves are only seen from late fall through mid-spring.  When the orchid flowers, there is just the floral stem and nothing else to be seen.  This photograph was taken in March and the flowers are seen in May.
